PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

WHAT IS The ProFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Committee?

The Professional Development Committee is responsible for PACO Scholarships and assisting current or future Paralegal students on their educational path. The committee reviews scholarship applications and awards two scholarships annually. One scholarship is awarded to a student paralegal and one scholarship is awarded to a paralegal who is pursuing a paralegal certification.  At its discretion, PACO may award additional scholarships. Applicants for the paralegal student scholarship must be currently enrolled in the Columbus State Community College paralegal program or an affiliated Columbus State program.  The Certification scholarship is awarded to a paralegal seeking Certification through either OSBA or NFPA.  Applications for both scholarships are accepted from March 1 to April 15 each year.  Scholarships are awarded during PACO's Paralegal Day celebration on the third Monday of May each year.

2026 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS:

Maria Ruiz Ortega and Alexandria Delikat-Hinze – $500 PACO Student Scholarship

In 2026, PACO awarded two $500 scholarships.  Maria Ruiz Ortega attends the Columbus State Community College Paralegal Program.  Through her work in a local law firm, she has obtained first hand insight into the impact legal professionals can have on peoples' lives.  This scholarship will help her continue pursuing a career in which she can contribute, learn, and make a positive difference.

Alexandria Delikat-Hinze also attends the Columbus State Community  College Paralegal Program.  Because of her work in advocacy, education, and public service, she has seen how legal systems directly affect peoples' daily lives.  She has seen first hand how law shapes communities.  She understands how intimidating and isolating legal processes can feel for those already facing trauma, and knows how empowering support and knowledge can be.  She plans to bring a thoughtful, client-centered approach to her paralegal work.

Congratulations and best wishes to Maria and Alexandria!
