2026 PACO Application for Scholarship (02 Mar 2026)

The Paralegal Association of Central Ohio (“PACO”) is awarding one (1) paralegal student scholarship in the amount of $500 and one (1) paralegal certification scholarship in the amount of $250 which will be awarded at PACO’s Paralegal Day celebration on May 18, 2026.

The eligibility criteria for paralegal scholarship consideration are each candidate must:

Provide proof of payment for the certification exam
-OR-
Proof of payment to Columbus State Community College or an affiliated program
-OR-
Provide your paralegal program transcript from Columbus State Community College or an affiliated program
-AND-

submit a completed “Application for Scholarship” by the deadline below.

The awarding of each paralegal scholarship shall be:

Determined by the PACO Professional Development Committee;

Based upon criteria including, but not limited to, work history, educational experience, financial need; and,

Awarded at the Paralegal Day celebration to the scholarship recipients selected.

The Professional Development Committee will determine whether or not a personal interview is needed to finalize the selection of the scholarship recipients. If so, you will be contacted by someone from this committee to be interviewed.

*The eligibility criteria for paralegal membership consideration candidates who apply must currently be working as a Paralegal or Paralegal Equivalent Role (e.g., performing paralegal tasks, reporting to an attorney, and working in a legal capacity)

Many couples reach their retirement years and realize they are not happy in their marriage. It could be that their adult children no longer need the care they once did, leaving the couple alone and wondering if they should continue in an unhappy marriage. This is also known as empty nest syndrome and may lead to a gray divorce. In other cases, spouses feel unfulfilled because of differences in life goals.

The gray divorce rate is increasing in many places, impacting Ohio marriages. Divorcing your spouse after a long-term marriage can create complex issues that newly married couples may not experience. For example, how will you divide retirement accounts or handle health insurance questions? Asset division in gray divorces is also complicated because of the large marital estate.
